How does it work?
1. General rules
Please read all the rules in these competition regulations carefully, both the general rules and those for the category in which you are participating.
Failure to comply with the rules in the competition regulations, both general and for the specific category, may result in a reduction in points, a determination that your competition piece is not to be judged ("not to schedule"), or disqualification. The general rules apply to all categories, unless a category specifies that a rule does not apply.
- The theme for 2027 will be announced later.
There is no mandatory theme for categories A and B. - Your participation in the competition grants you access to the fair on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. You will only be granted access if you have actually submitted the competition piece at the fair. You may enter in multiple categories, but access to the fair will be granted for only one person.
-
There's no distinction between professionals and hobbyists. Everyone is welcome. We assume that every hobbyist can work just as well professionally. We won't discuss this. So take on the challenge and let our expert jury judge your work! Competition pieces must be original and created without the assistance of anyone other than the person who entered the competition.
- You may not post your paper on (social) media, not even by others, before the results are announced. This way, everyone's paper can be assessed anonymously. You may be disqualified for doing so.
- You may not use (parts of) previously created (competition) pieces. A competition piece must not have previously been entered into an (online) competition. You may be disqualified for doing so. This applies to previous competitions, competitions held simultaneously, and future competitions that are judged. Submitting a tutorial as your own work is not permitted.
- The presentation, including for category A, must take place on a cake drum or MDF board. The edge of the cake drum or MDF board must be finished with a ribbon. The cake drum or MDF board must be covered with an edible material.
- The entire competition piece must fit within the dimensions specified for the category. These are the length and width (i.e., the ground surface). There is no maximum height for competition pieces. Exceeding these dimensions, for example, if your competition piece hangs over the edge of the board, can result in disqualification. Of course, your competition piece may be smaller than the maximum dimensions specified.
- If dummies are permitted, they must be treated as if they were real cakes. This means using food-safe products and placing flowers in flower picks or another food-safe barrier. When stacking multiple dummies, dowels are not required. The dummies must be covered with an edible medium.
When you enter the competition, you'll receive a wristband for the fair on Saturday and Sunday. Your competition piece must be submitted for the competition. If you enter multiple categories, you'll only receive one entry to the fair.
If you have any questions after reading the competition rules, you can ask them via contest@crazycakeevent.nl
- The theme for 2027 will be announced later.
2. Judging
The jury will judge on the following points:
- Design, composition & harmony of colors
- Creativity and originality
- Technical skills, variety of different techniques and neatness of work
- Total artistic look and the wow factor.
Using molds is allowed, but actual handwork will result in a higher score.
Points can be scored for each focus area. Two judges judge each category. The points from both judges are added together.
This then leads to the following results:
55 to 69 points – Merit
70 to 79 points – Bronze
80 to 89 points – Silver
90 and above – Gold3. Tips
- Be careful of fingerprints, glue stains, nail prints, pencil and tool marks and ensure an even thickness of your medium when covering a cake drum or board;
- The use of molds, edible pictures, and stencils is allowed, but manual work will result in a higher score.
- Please hand in your competition piece clean;
- If your competition piece is damaged in transit, you can report this at the registration desk. You will then receive a card to place with your competition piece. (Damaged in Transit)
- Repairs must be made before the competition piece is placed on the table in the hall and must be carried out by the competitor himself.
- The jury does not have to take this into account as transportation is the participant's responsibility;
- Remember that your competition piece will be viewed from all sides;
- And… it's better to ask a question in time than risk penalty points or disqualification
